During my childhood i had the privilege of watching this short in big screen with a clearer print. 21:35 always cracked me up and i could never stop laughing at envious Charlie's feeble attempt to match the painter. I always wondered what made Charlie Chaplin more famous than his contemporaries like Harold Lloyd whose films earned the highest revenues or Buster Keaton who made death defying stunts. Charlie's pantomime skills in the silent movies are the best and he touched on the subject of human emotions that are unparalleled even to this day.

Play this at 3/4 or even half speed. They were shot at 16 -18 frames/second. Most video transfers were done at 24 - 30 frames/second! Back when they were originally released as prints from camera negatives and viewed at 18 FPS, they looks as any modern movie looks, plus they did not move artificially fast. Sir Charles HATED that re-released prints were being played at 24 FPS and offered to help release them at proper speed. Stan Laurel HATED that TV was butchering his work with commercials played at inopportune times. Mr. Laurel even offered to edit the films for TV...for free! -To no avail. Stan Laurel died in 1965. Stan was Chaplin's understudy when Chaplin was with Fred Karno's troupe.
